• Participants who have completed the full Basic EMDR training may attend all 3 days.
• Non-EMDR therapists may attend Part One.
• Master’s or Ph.D. level therapists
• Instructional Level: Intermediate

Objectives

Part 1: The Family Therapy Component of the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol (IATP)

Participants will be able to:

  1. Complete the history-taking checklist regarding a hypothetical child case, identifying the child’s problem behaviors, early traumas, possible negative beliefs, and triggers.
  2. Identify 3 reminders for parents that can help parents become more attuned and supportive of the traumatized child.
  3. Identify 2 rationale for introducing the concept of “the smaller child within the child.”
  4. Identify 3 questions to help parents and child understand and interrupt “the domino effect.”
  5. Name 2 errors that can change the written therapeutic story from therapeutic to non-therapeutic.

Part 2: The EMDR Component of the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol (IATP)

Participants will be able to:

  1. Develop an EMDR treatment plan for a child with a history of attachment trauma.
  2. Identify an EMDR resource development method to increase the sense of attachment security between parent and child.
  3. Identify an EMDR resource development method to increase the child’s ability to regulate emotions.
  4. Name a rationale for keeping parents present during EMDR trauma work.
  5. Identify 2 common obstacles to reprocessing during the desensitization phase of EMDR for children suffering from attachment trauma.
  6. Describe 2 “empowerment interweaves” for a child stuck in feelings of powerlessness.
  7. Name a rationale for the utilization of puppets, plays, stories, or drawings to target a small piece of the child’s traumatic past.
  8. Name a strategy for implementing future template with children who are concrete, hands-on learners.

*Current research is limited to the application of EMDR to trauma-related disorders.
