Integrative Team Treatment for Attachment Trauma in Children:
Family Therapy and EMDR

by Debra Wesselmann, Cathy Schweitzer, & Stefanie Armstrong (Released March 2014, W.W. Norton)

Children traumatized in early attachment relationships by neglect, abuse, hospitalizations, surgeries, foster home placements, or orphanage care develop neurology designed by nature to keep them safe. When the trauma is over and the environment is changed, the children’s brains remain wired for survival, causing symptoms and behaviors that can be quite alarming. This manual provides clinicians with a clear, practical protocol to heal trauma, change behaviors, and create healthy attachments.

The integrative attachment trauma protocol may be implemented by a solo clinician, but a collaborative team is recommended for the most efficient success with extremely difficult cases.
